April

Happy Easter to All who wander by this. Yesterday was absolutely the best day (weatherwise) we have had! 82 degrees at my house, little wind, and great for yard work. The "Tree" man came by, so had those ugly trees on the fence line behind the house whacked down (the ones hanging over my yard) so now maybe I can make a new flower bed. Most of my flowers from last year came back, have lots of Iris about to bloom, and one yellow one already in full bloom.
I also have 10 new slats to replace on the fence, so should be a busy time. (the kids next door have been super active, and so have their dogs! ugh)
Next Sunday is Easter, so get your bonnets and gloves out and lets really have a blessed Easter Sunday! I was reading my E Mail, and all of a sudden I heard what I thought was something thrown at the house, and my hot glue gun jumped off the shelf-- I checked all around to see what else happened (Did Clay or Muffin fall out of bed??) no, all is well, I could not figure out what it was until the weatherman on Channel Four told me. Ah Life is exciting! Thanks Heavenly Father for nothing more serious.
As to the rest of my life, its pretty quiet. Beginning the usual summer strange things happening with the yard, and broken fences and all that jazz. Clay's brother is coming over, and he promised he would take me to the lumber yard and get a load of fence slats ( at least a dozen), so I can nail them back up as they get knocked down. I can only get about 4 in the back of my car, and its gets tiresome. BG has a pick up truck. We went to Tulsa yesterday, just a nice trip. Its time for to get ready for church - blessings to all who read this -

Yea Elizabeth!!!!!!

I am so excited! I just read Elizabeth's blog from NYC - she is haveing a grand adventure, and I am so happy for her ( yes, I miss her, but I'm happy she is trying her wings) Certainly is a bright spot in my life! Things around here are going OK---everything at the moment is working, including my AOL account, which is a pleasant change. I have not been able to get on line and stay---for ever it seems. My land phone has been so staticicy (no that is not a proper word), anyway, called the phone repair service today and a nice man came and checked me out (not that's not right, he checked out the wires, seems I have been dis connected partially from the main box - now I can talk and hear on the phone - so all of you that have been having to call me on my cell, cross your fingers and hope I stay connected. Since the phone is my modem, that is the reason I could not stay connected to AOL (at least I hope that was it).
I'm OK, Clay is OK, and Muffin is OK, and a lovely cat lives on my front porch, gets 2 meals a day and lots of love , so the world is spinning right along. We did have a little bump in the road last week, Clay's house got broken into - they made a big mess- dumped drawers and stuff, and broke the back window out of the Ford (locked in the garage). They went down the street and robbed another house, and the man was home and had his gun loaded and shot at them- no doubt scaring them-they ran and left the loot they took from Clay's, so the Police returned the coin collection, and we have most of the stuff put back where it belongs--again thank goodness they did not rip and tear and smash inside the house, just dumped drawers, so you see, there is something good in most things, and we are thankful for that. I hope someone reads this, it has been so long since I wrote you probably think I've given this up WRONG, hopefully I'm back. love to all of you, and Elizabeth, I can't get on your comment page, but when I figure it out I h ope to be #1 follower! Today I can say the carport and patio covers are on and the east gable that the hail broke out is back in, all looking good. The roof will come in September (when it is somewhat cooler). getting all that scheduled was the biggest mess, so now I'm just biding my time waiting for the next round of roofers and gutterers and all that jazz. Church is going along slowly, we have a new Pastor, and I feel sure he will vitalize us one of these days.
My flower garden began in the spring with lots of pretty daffodils and tiger lily's and then came the iris and day lilys and continuing on into summer the lovely pink cone flowers and gallardia. The last two are still blooming, which is amazing after all the hot hot weather. I tried to water, but didn't do a really good job. I have seperated some of the iris at Clay's house, and some are ready for planting. They will add much to the beauty of the spring time in 2009.
We made a trip to Tulsa on August 16th., and ate at our favorite place to eat in that area, Locust Grove at the Country Cottage- it is such a fun place, the food is always good, and the decor is just out of this world---well you know what has happened at Locust Grove, yep - I got it. I was sick the whole next week, with all the classic symptoms (and I won't bore you with that said tail) but now I am better, under the Doctor's care and on a super anti botic (one that you can't take while your sick). I return to the Doctor tomorrow for the results of all the tests, and I am sure he will tell me I'm on the mend. I only have one suggestion for anyone who thinks they may have this condition--don't take any medication-rest and drink water, lots of water. This E coli (that I had) does not make one nauceous. Drink lots and help it get out of your system. Also I should have gone to the doctor much sooner, but I had no idea how much danger I was in or I would have. I think the system for reporting these things and getting it out to the public needs to be updated, and immediately posted-so what if every one gets alarmed, It might save some lives. I did not know about this outbreak until I was almost over it, and I heard it on the radio going back over to Tulsa. Of course the very next morning it was headline on the DAily OK. And when I got to my Doctors Office, he had no idea what I was babbling about- and had to go look it up on the Web! Ladies!! you must be your own advocate and speak up for yourself - thats my soap box for today. Lots of Graduations, Parties, and just plain living. I enjoyed it all, and am duly proud of all. I even got to hold the new little Mauer (Max that is!) for at least a second, he is a handsome boy. Everyone is going every which way. Had a nice visit from some old Friends who have retired to Tuscon, and who are defying old age with a passion! They both in thier late 80's and both won GOLD Medals at the Senior Olympics! Inspired me to get off my duff and get walking and working. I think my summer excercise is going to be that of replacing slats on the wood fence, ah yes, summer and school is out, and the boys next door are fascinated with my fence - or is it that they enjoy taking it down one at a time, and me running out there and putting it back up the same way? Muffin and I parole the perimeter almost every day - gotta get a new supply of slats! Oh well, keeps me off the street and out of the bars (HA)
My flowers are doing great, lots of buds on the lily's, and the galardia is great. The grass in the front yard is coming along nicely, and I must get the holly hedge clipped before it hides the hose and I have to get a suit of armor to clip it.
Time to go towork! today is supposed to be "Bell" day, but doubt that it will be - lots of changes at church too! Our new Preacher is great, but he has a few mountains to climb - did I tell you our "Associate" pastor resigned? thats a story for another day. Blessings to all who read this, and bah humbug to all who don't.

Sensational Sunday

WOW, what a great day - went to UCO to enjoy Elizabeth's Senior Recital, and enjoy we did, her choice of material, her poise, and delivery of said material was fabulous! 5 Stars Miss Elizabeth - and no Granny is not a bit prejudiced. New Baby in our family, haven't seen him yet, but I've been warned he has big feet! His pictures look adorable, and of course he must be a good baby, that's the only kind. Congrats to Sam and Andrea on this new little twig on our family tree.
Lots of graduations in the family coming up, I understand there will be 3, no make that 4 --just learned of the last one in the past few days. Congrats to all and many good wishes for continued success.
I've been working on the genealogy a little bit lately. Found a long lost family that I had been searching for, and that was a thrill. I found them when I signed in on Classmates (my elementary school); the younger generation went to the same school, many years later than I did, but I recognized the name. So I've been busy catching them up on the family tree (my mothers side). And been promised a lot of info that I don't have. This is not of much interest to anybody but me, but what the heck, I enjoyed it. I am not to sure this blog is read anyway. and that's OK, I like it.
Keep well everyone, blessings to all.

Easter Sunday

Happy Easter - It has been a lovely day. Sun Shining (but very cool!). Had my Cadberry Egg for the year, breakfast at Church, took pictures of all the children in all their Easter Finery - even saw two little girls complete with white gloves and Bonnets. I know we don't go to church to dress up, but we used to have fun, and I am glad some little girls still get to enjoy all that (I sure did enjoy it) We had a good turn out today, saw some people I won't see again until Christmas (I didn't say that did I?). Good sermon I am really enjoying our new Minister. Home to get back in jeans and survey the daffodils, today I have 4 with pink trumpets! They are gorgeous! Yep, took pics of that too. We are having a late dinner, ham steaks, Scalloped potatoes, broccoli, and a nice fruit salad. Got some good cleaning done there, in preparation for Easter. Also some one (Worship Committee??) decided we would have a new pictorial directory - and that it would be done on Thursday and Friday sooooooo here we are on Good Friday, cameras every where, sweet little old people (I include myself in this category) trying to find the photographer, and trying to keep a pleasant smile for posterity. Who is keeping the appointment desk? How come the wind is blowing a gale, do you have a comb - why did they change places? are you sure its in the fellowship hall? NO--its in the education bldg. Ah Spring. We did manage to have a meaningful Maundy Thursday Service. (in the fellowship hall (the sanctuary was set up for Pictures) I am thankful we are able to launch this new Directory, and still keep our wits to know that the church is there, a sanctuary even in times of stress. It is only a building, We are the Church (quote from Jim Spiller). I'm not complaining, I am constantly amazed at the things that can be accomplished, when I am sure they won't be. And for anyone who is struggling with insurmountable problems, hang in there - God has a plan!
And at home ..we were entertained by a tiny mouse racing around the living room, bumping into coffee table legs, and disappearing into the fire place if we moved. Laundry got done, wardrobe for picture taking got chosen, and like I said at first, the daffodils are in full tilt, and crocus all over the place, I guess the kids had a good spring break, and onward and upward to a Glorious Easter Sunday. I am off to church to work this morning, but here's a quick update. Sunday was a beautiful day, no wind, warm, just perfect for a day outside, so .....we finished hauling the cedar trees to the curb, it is all done, don't have to worry about that! took most of the afternoon, but after a couple of hours Mrs. Story's daughter took pity on us (me) and came and helped, and it really went fast. Clay cut them into carryable (thats not a word I don't think) sizes and we took them to the curb. Yesterday, we sorta collapsed in a heap--I did manage to get several dresser drawers cleaned out and re-organized, and a haircut. (I was hunting my "St. Pat's" stuff) So now the Shamrocks are out and Faith and Begorra is the word for the day, and corn beefed sandwiches are the menu. Easter is so early this year, gotta hunt that up next! (along with what on earth am I going to wear!) Oh well,. it will all work out one way or another. I'm off to work -- Hi Ho, Hi Ho, its off to work I go. I do have osteoporosis, but it is average for my age and frame. I am reminding my daughters and my grand daughters to be sure they are getting their quota of calcium==in their 20's 40's and 50's. Its very important, and going into your 70's you won't have to worry about bone loss and fractured hips. And maybe not even have to take Fosamax or Bonevia or any of those things. Also be advised that Calcium needs to have at least 400 units of Vitamin D in it to be truly effective. Vitamin D helps in absorption of the calcium. I got a blood test today to make sure I have enough Vitamine D. I'll let you know on that. Did you know that you can get your quota of Vitamin D by 15 minute exposure to the sun light ever day? Course Winter makes that difficult but its a good thought for summer - just don't sun burn your self! Enough Medical lectureing. I'm fine, yesterday I worked at the church, and in afternoon we went over and hauled some more limbs to the curb. A little bit every day (that it is nice weather) we will get it all out yet. MWC has set a deadline of Mar. 16. so must do a little every day. Had a nice little trip to Tulsa last week, visited with some very nice friends. I drove us home....got lost in Sapulpa of all places, but Clay finally figured out where in the heck I was, and got us back on track......I was chagrined that I could get all the way thru Tulsa, and then get lost trying to get on the Turnpike in Sapulpa! Oh well, makes a good story anyway!
My daffodils are up, and about to bloom and today I found the first purple crocus! WOW (they have all been yellow ) Enough of my meanderings - surprise me and tell me you read this!

Beautiful Day..tomorrow Valentines & Snow

Beautiful Sunshine, no wind (not much anyway) what rare day for February. I checked out all my daffodills and croceses - and low and behold, had one lonely little blooming crocus! Bright Yellow! Made my day. The daffys are up and fat and short, but will grow fast now! I can hardly wait.
We are all doing fine here, Muffin is not limping, and Clay is much better (still coughing), but better anyway. I (knock on wood) and still feeling fine, so hope I don't get the bug. Did you see that cute Beagle at Westminster?? reminds me of a cute beagle I once knew named Blossom. They do seem to have "snoopy" personalities. My horoscope (LOL) said I was going to have a busy week and get lots done, and sure enough - some of that was correct. Sunday was a banner day (it usually is - but this one was special. Congratulations Patterson on your great achievement. I enjoyed visiting with my family and Patt's extended family - it was a great day. I came home and picked 20 pounds of pecans from the front yard . Monday did four loads of laundry, and tried to figure out where to put the pecans--Tuesday - 3 more loads of laundry, and tried to find the ironing board, also voted, sent John Forrest a Birthday card and grocery shopped. and worked 3 hours at the church--this horoscope can slow down any time now. Wednesday was cold and dreary, so got all that laundry folded and put away--and did not look for the irioning board--Did make a big pot of vegetable soup and we all enjoyed it much. Did I tell you Clay has the flu, and Muffin is walking on three legs--don't know what is going on there, but I'm taking care of both of them. Clay has a Dr. appt next week, and Muffin will have one if she dosn't get better. The gimpy leg has not deminished her appetite - and she manuvers very well to the dinner plate. and.....my weird neighbors are being very very weird - but we won't commit that to print. If your curious call me and I'll fill you in!

And so today is beginning, maybe I'll get the pictures printed that I took on Sunday, need to pick more pecans - but not if its snowing or raining - Hope whoever reads this is having a nice day - because I am going to! blessings

New Oklahoma State Quarter!

What a Fun Day, Clay and I went to the State Historical Society to view and buy the New Oklahoma State Quarter. Nice Ceremony, Gov. Henry and Kim bought the first rolls of quarters, The Mint "Eagle" was there, as was "Sissy" the State Sissor Tail Fly Catcher, along with the Deputy Director of the Mint. A very large crowd, and a very well managed sale. I took lots of pictures and that is always fun. I need to buy stock in digital printing process! Lots of children were there, and they gave a free quarter to every child under 18--too bad I could not have planned better and had a few grand kids with me (only have three that still fit that age range) Maybe next time! The new quarter is very pretty, and I am sure most of you have one by now, and will agree with me. Lots of grousing about it not being very representative of our state, but the time to vote on that is long past, so I intend to just enjoy this pretty thing, and am glad I was there to witness history! Have fun, do something nice for yourself today - as well as some one else. Its been a great day, we have been on an adventure to the Old Round Barn on Route 66 in Arcadia, and a sashay thru "Pops" . We went first to Pops, which unfortunately was out of water today, so the restaurant part was not open, but that did not hinder us from enjoying the unique building with its glass walls filled with pop bottles (filled of course. ) Neither of us recognized any of the labels on the pop bottles, but they are pretty and very different. We were looking for a Nehi Grape Soda - if its there we didn't find it. The gift shop is huge, and filled with tee shirts of all kinds, advertising Pops of course, and in many different ways. Some of them had Oklahoma Centennial on them also. They were $18. in case you would like to indulge yourself. We didn't. Took several pictures inside and of course of the huge big pop bottle image outside.
After buying two candy bars, we traveled on down the mother road to the Round Barn. Back to the candy, have you tried the new Three Musketeers Bars that are dark chocolate and mint? um um good. On to the barn, it is something to see, and is very well preserved. A nice gentleman named Mr. Sam gave us a little back ground of when the barn was built (1898), and the families that farmed in the area. Mr Sam is 81, and still farming about three miles down the road from the Barn. He said he was "haying" tomorrow. We went up stairs to the loft and admired the round roof and the lovely wood floor (by the way, there will be a big Square Dance there on Oct. 31st) The ingenuity of the early settlers is amazing. If you haven't been there you should really go. On the way home . On the road home (south on Spencer Road) saw three camels and a lama or two. I'd like to say the Camels waved,
but they really didn't, Fun day hope yours was also.

If you would like a look at the barn go to: arcadiaroundbarn.org

Saturday

Looks like its gonna be a great day, Have Fun you all !

Bricktown Directions

To get to Centennial Monument, go to entrance of Bass Pro shop, there are two, we went to main one, go past the fountain, and on south under I-40, and you come right into the parking lot of the Monuments - there is lots of space to park. They are still putting things in, but that is the fun of going now...watch the huge crane lift up a covered wagon--people and all and place it in its position. They were doing a wagon, got it down, but the horses took too long, so missed seeing them fly thru the air to their spot, but will check again. The detail on the sculptures is fantastic - I especially enjoyed the one of the cowboy trying to catch his hat--be sure and look for that when you go. Across the canel is a lone rider looking for a little calf asleep in the grass. We also saw a boatload (Oklahoma Princess) of sight seeiers, they paused at the head of the lead wagon (which is poised at the edge of the canel) The area around this exhibit is beautifully landscaped, and something for all us "Okies" to be proud of. Took lots of pictures, but I don't know how to post them, someday maybe. Going to Tulsa Tomorrow, to view the new Botanical Gardens opening this weekend. Take care have fun - all you Football fans!

I took the "Book" test, and here is my answer
You're "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee Perceived as a revolutionary and groundbreaking person, you have changed the minds of many people. While questioning the authority around you, you've also taken a significant amount of flack. But you've had the admirable guts to persevere. There's a weird guy in the neighborhood using dubious means to protect you, but you're pretty sure it's worth it in the end. In the end, it remains unclear to you whether finches and mockingbirds get along in real life.
I don't know how many minds I've changed, but I certainly have had my share of questioning, and Flack!! We went to Lyric last night, saw "Once on this Island". It was veddy intereresting.....Music great....costume great....I just should have boned up on it before I went...nontheless...we enjoyed much. Went with Larry & Marj, and if you didn't know, Marj is best tour guide of Okc downtown around. We toured Brick town, checked out the new Skirvin, drove by what used to be the Kerr McGee Bldg, and just had a general view of downtown--it was busy, lots of people down there, lots of changes, saw three carriages powered by Clydsdales, its great. We ended up this exotic evening at Braums in Del City and a double dip ice cream - and a tour of Eagle Lake! WOW! We had a good trip to Tulsa yesterday, delivered our recycled papers to be used for mulch at the farm. Visited with a young mule, white and frisky and named Molly. Drove over to Claremore and had a faboulous lunch at a place next Door to Will Rogers Memorial called Harriman's. Yum! I had spinich and salmon salad, and 1/4 of Clay's Raisen Creme pie. (got the recipe too!) It was very very good, and I am sure 900 calories a bite--oh well. If anyone is interested, I'll post the recipe. got home about 10:30 pm. Elizabeth came to visit. We had a good time-lunch and lots of just catching up. Later in the day I whacked up branches and tried to clean up in the back yard - and- had two little visitors from next door=yep, broke down my back fence again and Caden(almost 2) and Daisy Dog came rushing in. Muffin freaked (and brave watch dog that she is) headed for the house and the dog door--so did Daisy. Caden made for a fast retreat thru the back fence hole, I said a few "bad" words, got Daisy out, but she likes it here, so didn't want to go home, finally the "big" boy came and trolled her home. Pretty exciting there for a minute or two. I haven't told you that one day last week Clay and I were sitting on the couch, watching TV, and all of a sudden here came Muffin in a dead run, with Daisy and Caden right behind her. Caden stopped at the Den door and grinned and said HI! By the time I got my wits back, he left (thru the Doggy Door), but left the dog, well that was another merry chase thru the house to get her out. I had to go over and knock on the door to get the ?parents? to come get Daisy out of the yard. The mother came out with the three big boys, and yanked Caden out of his hidy hole in the back fence and got the dog under control. I asked her if she could please fix the hole in their fence, so he could not get behind my fence and break it down---she didn't even answer me! Anyway this visit prompted buying some new slats for the fence and they are now in place, so hopefully there won't be any more visits. (any advice on how to handle this situation?)
This morning, it is going to be a nice day! We are going to Tulsa. Say prayers for us and Muffin!

DiscoveryLand!

What a great show! We went to Oklahoma! last night, great dancing, singing, and general mayhem! If you have not been go...the season is over August 18, and if you are like me, you'll fool around and miss it again this year. " Curley" has great voice, as does "Laurie". I didn't get a program, so can't tell you if any one of these is a friend of yours...The set was very well done, and authenticated by the first horse that rode thru--yep, you guessed it. They had to watch their steps all thru the play! Aunt Eller was great, as was Jed, it is just a great show, so go see it If you have not already. We also looked at all the shops, and had 9 million calories at Laurie's sweet shop. Clay had Oklahoma Mud, and I had berries in cream, both wonderful---no deserts for a week! come see me, or at least make a "comment" so I'll know somebody is still alive out there.

what is this????

I am posting to this so I can figure out how to post to my blogs. h.

July 2007 Thoughts

Its been foreaver since I've posted, so here I am again.
